Kristanna Loken was born on December 19, 1979 and though she is unmistakably of Norwegian origin, she was raised on an organic fruit farm in upstate New York. Her father is a successful writer (having written Come Monday Mornin' and The Boy Next Door) and the owner/operator of Love Apple Farm, while her mother, the ultimate inspiration for Kristanna, is a former Wilhelmina model.
During her childhood, Kristanna was exposed to both public and private schools and tried her hand at several activities including acting, dancing, and singing lessons. Her hard working attitude and love for sports were forged early on; Kristanna was a stellar student and came to love horseback riding. In fact, she showcased her skills in equestrian events and has ridden across much of Hawaii, Ireland and Africa.
Loken's career started out early. Thanks to encouragement from her mother, she chose to pursue modeling in her teens and at fifteen years old, came in 3rd in the Elite Look of the Year contest in Ibiza, Spain in 1994. This exposure led to some modeling jobs.
Casting agents soon noticed her and she was hired to play the troubled teen Dani Andropolous on CBS' long-running As the World Turns in 1994. Although she did not catch on with viewers and was replaced by Ashley Williams in the part, Loken soon moved to primetime making guest appearances on hit shows like Fox's New York Undercover, NBC's Law & Order and ABC's Boy Meets World.
