Keira Knightley got the gift of acting from her parents Will Knightley and Sharman MacDonald. She was born on the 22nd of March 1985 at Teddington in London, UK.
Keira, in fact was a dyslexic and she emerged from her handicap to take the world by storm in the field of acting. In 1994 at age of nine she got her first break in films by getting a role in, A Village Girl. It was followed by a few insignificant roles in a few films.
Keira Knightley shot into prominence due to her startling resemblance to famous actress Natalie Portman. She acted as a decoy for Natalie Portman in the Star Wars Part 1. Her role was kept a secret and due to her resemblance and stunning performance her fans were unable to make out the difference between the two. Since then, she has completed an impressive array of films, including the made-for-TV movie Princess of Thieves, the series Oliver Twist, and the thriller The Hole.
She also played a small role in Deflation. She spent three months in Slovakia and Prague filming a 2002 TV version of Dr. Zhivago, in which she played Lara, the same character Julie Christie played in the famous 1965 version. And this was all before her 18th birthday.
But it was another project in 2002 that served as her breakthrough role. Knightley starred in Gurinder Chadha?s Bend It Like Beckham, a hugely popular Indo-British comedy. In order to play the part, she endured 20 weeks of tough football practice - her coach, who had trained top players, declared her more naturally talented than Michael Owen.
Next up is the big-budget Disney production, Pirates of the Carribean, to be released in theatres soon; and King Arthur, currently being filmed in Ireland, in which she will play the role of Guinevere. Barely into adulthood, this hot UK export has already won over fans across the Atlantic.
Many diverse projects she has lined up prove that she is ready to take the world by storm, and we're waiting with open arms. For now, she keeps a level head and lives with her parents in Richmond, England.
