Cameron Diaz

Cameron was born August 30, 1972, in San Diego, California to a second generation Cuban American father, and a mother who is of Native American, Italian, and German descent.
After leaving home at 16, she toured the world of modeling for five years. After her successful stints in Japan, Australia, Paris, Morocco etc she returned to California when she was 21.
By the time she landed herself a role in the film The Mask, starring comedian Jim Carrey, she was already an accomplished actress appearing in commercials for Calvin Klein, Levi's, and Coca-Cola as well as being on magazines such as Seventeen and Mademoiselle. With no previous acting experience, she originally auditioned for a supporting character in the film but ended up doing the main lead. For bagging the lead role Diaz says, "Anything the filmmakers wanted, I would do. But it got to the point where I said, 'You know what? I'm not doing it anymore. I'm not gonna go practice with the choreographer so that he knows the steps he's gonna teach the real girl who gets the job.'"
She was the best thing to happen in Hollywood and was wooed by a number of prominent filmmakers to appear in their projects. Cameron Diaz opted to take acting lessons and appear in a series of small, independent films, including The Last Supper, 1995, She's the One, 1996, and Feeling Minnesota , 1996.
After starring opposite Ewan McGregor in Danny Boyle's A Life Less Ordinary, Diaz further endeared herself to audiences and critics with her performance in My Best Friend's Wedding, 1997. Proving herself an acceptable foil for the film's star, Julia Roberts, she went on to greater success in the Farrelly brothers' There's Something About Mary in 1998. She garnered the American Comedy Award for Funniest leading actress for this film. as well as the Blockbuster Entertainment for Best Actress - Comedy for My Best Friend's Wedding.
Cameron continued to appear in relatively low budget independent films, including Very Bad Things, Malkovich, and Things You Can Tell Just by Looking at Her.
In 2000 Diaz joined Drew Barrymore and Lucy Liu in Charlie's Angels, the much-hyped big-screen remake of the television classic. Her other projects include Martin Scorsese's Gangs of New York, co-starring Leonardo DiCaprio.
